Learn to thread and operate a sewing machine, then create a simple project. Machines are also available for in-branch use. This is a two-part project running September 24 and October 1.

This project will take two evenings to complete. Please make certain that you can attend both evenings before registering.

Join us as we sew a pumpkin table runner, just in time for fall and Thanksgiving.

This programme is designed for adult, beginner and experienced, sewers.  

Please bring your own fabric and batting (please see below for materials list). 

If you can bring your own sewing machine, more people can register for the class. Machines provided at the programme will be shared, but personal machines will only be used by their owners. 

 Materials List:

  • Cotton Fabric #1 – green or brown for stem of pumpkins - ¼ yard
  • Cotton Fabric #2 – backing fabric (can be the same as one of your pumpkin colours or a completely different fabric) - 2 metres
  • Cotton Fabrics #3-#7 - can all be different shades of orange or whatever colour or print you would like your pumpkins to be. There are many different combinations of pumpkin colours/prints, or they may be all the same colour/print of fabric.  The choice is yours.  Each pumpkin requires a 15" x 15" piece of fabric.  In the end, you will need five 15"x 15" squares of fabric.
  • Quilting Batting - Polyester or cotton or a blend is fine for this project. Also, it does not need to be fusible. - 2 metres
  • Thread to match your project, if you are bringing your own machine. White thread will be provided on the library's machines.

Fergus Branch is located in downtown Fergus by Templin Gardens. This historic Carnegie building features three floors and houses Library Administration, as well as a rentable meeting room, Wi-Fi, and computer access.
